Comments On Permitting
May 6, 2006 - The concept outlined here is one that changes most forms of permitting into conservation contracts.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
- FWC has formed an Action Team within its ranks to research and recommend changes.
- The main question that is being asked is “What is the Conservation Value?” of current and proposed changes.
- See the GTCI section on ISSUES to see that major points being reviewed.
- Two meetings have been held to form a Stakeholder’s Group of individuals representing citizens, conservation groups, local governments, developers, scientists, agriculture, forestry and others. The next meeting is Dec. 8. Individuals serving on this group are to go back to their constituents and receive feedback on changes being considered like URTD Testing, Incidental Take, Relocation, Mitigation, Consultant credentials, and others.

Update March 31, 2004: the Institute sent a petition to the Fish and Wildlife Serivce to list the gopher torotises as a threatened species.

Please write the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and encourage them to have a statewide open conference before establishing regulations and to include those things you think are important from the Discussion Paper (PDF).
